Students compete in local spelling bee

     The Logan School Spelling Bee was held on January 18 in the auditorium.  Thirty-four spellers took part in the competition. Mrs. Jansonius welcomed everyone to the spelling bee and went over the rules.  Mr. Kirkendall was the pronouncer, Mr. Gower and Mrs. Kiser were the judges, Mrs. Brown was the protest judge, and Mr. Jansonius was the videographer. 

     After Round 4, eleven spellers remained.  They were Hannah Brumbaugh, Coda Ashmore, Gunnar Ashmore, Mollie Griffin, Kinley VanDerVeen, Jayla Traxler, Taden Gottschalk, Emma Traxler, Brayton Woods, Austin Leanna, and Case Ashmore.  Taden and Case were eliminated in round 5, Coda, Gunnar, Mollie, Jayla, and Emma were eliminated in round 6, and Kinley and Brayton were eliminated in round 7. 

     At the beginning of round 8, only 6th grader Hannah Brumbaugh and 8th grader Austin Leanna remained.  They battled for two more rounds until Austin spelled “wreaked” and then “technique” to become the champion.  Congratulations to Champion Austin Leanna and Runner-up Hannah Brumbaugh. 

     Other students placing in the top 10 were 8th grader Brayton Woods and 4th grader Kinley VanDerVeen who tied for 3rd place, 8th grader Mollie Griffen, 6th grader Jayla Traxler, 7th grader Emma Traxler, 4th grader Gunnar Ashmore, and 5th grader Coda Ashmore who tied for 5th place, and 8th grader Case Ashmore and 7th grader Taden Gottschalk who tied for 10th place. 

     Other students participating in the bee were 4th graders Graysen Becker, Tucker Ellenberger, Remington Elliott, Cooper Griffin, Emily Karlin, Tobin Kats, Helen Prewo, Henry States, and Annslee Traxler; 5th graders Kaydee Bolt, Keegan Breese, Addie Ellenberger, Weston Ruff, Brecken Shellito, John Sparks, Hunter Vahling, and Jayce Wiltfong; 6th grader Jasper States; 7th graders TyRay Snyder, Collin Sparks, and Buster States; 8th graders Stanley DeWitt and Gavin Gottschalk.  The County Spelling Bee will be held on February 2nd at Thunder Ridge.
