Logan's Dylan Van Laeys wins local Spelling Bee
The Logan Spelling Bee was held on Thursday, January 25 with 29 spellers competing. After six rounds, 4 spellers remained: Dylan Van Laeys, Case Ashmore, Sam Pinkerton, and A.J. Grammon. Case and A.J. both went out in round 7, leaving Sam and Dylan to battle it out for the championship. It took 12 more rounds for a champion to be crowned. Dylan spelled “defensiveness” and “segregation” to become Logan’s 2018 Spelling Bee champion. Other students participating were Lylah Voss, Austin Leanna, Gavin Gottschalk, Stanley DeWitt, Olivia Runnion, Savannah Moore, Mayson Vahling, Rhett Kats, Kaden Graham, Kaitlyn Alexander, Kendra Alexander, Hailey McClurg, Tye West, Ryan Prewo, Shaylee Smith, Caleb Sparks, Truman Taliaferro, Brooke Wiltfong, Mara Kats, Lexi Brasted, Cydnee Rider, Cameron Morgan, Grayci White, Kylee Uhland and Ty Kats. The County Spelling Bee will be held in Logan on Wednesday, January 31 at 9:00 a.m.
