Kayla and Faith Hofaker earn instrumental music awards
Faith Hofaker and Kayla Hofaker recently performed at Regional Piano Festival in Hays. Both girls received a “I” rating for their performances. Faith played “Bagatelle in D Major” by Beethoven. Kayla played “Waltz in E minor” by Chopin. By earning the top rating, both girls will travel to Wichita on Feb. 20 to perform at the State Piano Festival. The girls study piano under Mary Smith of Phillipsburg.
Kansas Music Educators (KMEA) recently announced members of the 2016 All-State Honor Bands. Chosen based on a live audition of required material were Faith Hofaker and Kayla Hofaker, juniors at Logan High School. Faith will sit 3rd chair in the alto saxophone section and Kayla will sit 4th chair in the horn section. The honor band will rehearse in Wichita as part of KMEA’s annual In-Service Workshop on Feb. 25-27, 2016. After two days of intense rehearsals, the All-State Band, comprised of 1-4A students, will present a concert Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Vesta Jo Still, music instructor, will accompany the students.
