Trojans traveled to Plainville and Brewster last week
The Logan-Palco Trojans were on the road this week as they traveled to Plainville and Brewster. On Tuesday, Feb. 11, in Plainville, the JV boys took the court first, as no JV girls game was held. In 2 quarters of play, the Cardinals shot unbelievably well and pummeled the Trojans, handing them their first loss of the season 11-51. Junior Carson Knipp scored 7.
In the girls contest, had the Lady Trojans played in the first half the way they did in the second half, the result would have been much different. The Cardinals jumped to the early lead, and although the Trojans were able to step up their game and play equally with their opponents for the rest of the game, they couldn't dig out of the first half hole they created. In the 39-63 loss, junior Lylah Voss scored 15 points and blocked Cardinal 4 shots! Hailey McClurg added 8 points and 4 steals, while freshman Jayla Traxler came off the bench and scored 8 points with 8 rebounds.
The varsity boys game was a little rough for the Trojan fans to watch as their undefeated team trailed the Cardinals for most of the game. Down my 5 at the end of the first quarter and going into the locker room, they still trailed going into the 4th quarter. In a great defensive effort, the Trojans took the Cardinals out of their game in the 4th quarter, forcing them to take rushed shots, then capitalizing on the other end of the court with points of their own. Some big free throws by Ryan Prewo, Ethan Gaschler, Caleb Sparks and Rhett Kats down the stretch secured the 57-49 come-from-behind win. Prewo scored 8, Case Ashmore had 10 with 6 boards, and Kats scored 28 with 7 boards and 4 assists. Thankfully, Logan fans were able to make it home before the snowstorm hit which cancelled school for most area schools on Wednesday.
Friday took the Trojans to Brewster. Again with no JV girls game, the JV boys played 2 quarters. This time it was the Trojans who dominated the game as they won 35-16. Taden Gottschalk scored 8 followed by Easton Gottschalk with 7. Buster States and Stanley DeWitt each added 5.
The Lady Trojans were finally able to relax a bit during their game as they won easily 54-19. Jayla Traxler and McClurg both scored 11 points, and McClurg added 7 steals and 5 assists. Senior Kendra Alexander scored 7 with 5 assists. Junior Trinity Couse grabbed 8 rebounds while Voss blocked another 4 shots.
Similar to the girls, the boys won big 84-26. Four players scored in double-digits: Gaschler with 18, Kaden Graham with 16, Case Ashmore with 13 and Sparks with 10. Kats brought down 13 boards and tallied 7 assists, while Sparks added another 5 assists.
Weather permitting, the Trojans will travel to Hill City to take on the Ringnecks, then will play at home in Logan on Thursday, Feb. 20 for a make-up game against Lakeside.
