Ladies place 4th in Sagebrush Shootout

During the second week of the season, the Logan Trojans participated in the Sagebrush Shootout Tournament in Brewster, Kansas.  The first day of the tournament was on Monday, December 4 where the Lady Trojans faced the Weskan Coyotes.  It was a low scoring battle as neither team shot well from the field, but the Trojans won the contest in overtime by a score of 36-31.  The Lady Trojans were able to shoot 63% from the charity stripe and in the overtime period, this was the difference.  Ryann Kats had 10 points and 11 rebounds, Harlee Voss had 9 points, 5 rebounds, and she shot 100% free throws and Brianna Pinkerton had 8 points and 6 rebounds.

The semifinals found the Lady Trojans matched up with perennial basketball powerhouse, Golden Plains Bulldogs.  The intense defensive pressure applied by the Bulldogs created 28 turnovers and poor shooting from the Trojans.  It was a tough 22-48 loss for the Trojans.  The Lady Trojans were led by sophomores Camryn Greving and Harlee Voss.  Camryn had 7 points and 5 rebounds.  Harlee had 5 points, 6 rebounds and she shot 40% from the field.

On Saturday, December 9 the Logan Lady Trojans faced the Cheylin Cougars in the consolation contest.  The Cougars went out strong right from the beginning and it seemed as if they just couldn’t miss a shot.  Despite staying in the battle and winning the second half, Logan just couldn’t recover from the first half deficit and lost 34-49.  In the game, the Trojans were led by senior Ryann Kats with 13 points, 5 rebounds and one steal.  The next action for the Trojan high school basketball teams will be in Logan on December 16 against the Northern Valley Huskies.

Congratulations to Ryann Kats for her selection to the All-tournament team!!
