Trojans take The Valley, Seniors recognized
The Trojans hosted Northern Valley on Friday, Jan. 24 in the new LIFE Gym, and pulled off 3 wins on the night. With no JV girls game, the Trojan JV team led throughout the contest, but only by a close margin. Each time the Trojans scored, the Huskies answered, keeping the game within 2 to 5 points. Up by only 2 at the beginning of the 4th quarter, the Trojans rallied and were able to widen the gap and won 35-25. The game was definitely a team effort as almost everyone was able to put points on the board. Taden Gottschalk led with 8, followed by Easton Gottschalk and Carson Knipp with 5, and Stanley DeWitt, Brennan Loyd-Counter and Colton Acheson all with 4. The JV boys remain undefeated with a 7-0 record.
Before the varsity girls game, seniors Hailey McClurg and Kendra Alexander were recognized for their leadership in basketball, and Jolie Kuhn for cheer.
The varsity girls match-up was a nail-biter until the very end as the Huskies came back from a 12-point deficit and were only down 4 with 3 minutes to go in the game. Buckets from Breyer Delimont and Hailey McClurg along with some Delimont free throws kept them ahead, but a score from freshman Haedyn Cox put the score 39-37 with 20 seconds left on the clock. A series of miscues kept the game exciting for both teams, but the Lady Trojans hung on and took the win. Sophomore Breyer Delimont shot a season high of 20 points and McClurg added 14. Lylah Voss had a great defensive game with 14 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.
The senior boys and their parents were recognized after the girls game including manager Eric Gaschler, Ethan Gashchler, Kaden Graham, Rhett Kats, Ryan Prewo, Caleb Sparks and Tye West. With a young Husky roster, the Trojans dominated the court and won 73-15. Senior Ryan Prewo chalked up 5 of 11 from 3-point land for 45% and 17 points, pulled down 9 boards and stole the ball 4 times. Caleb Sparks added 9 points, Ethan Gaschler 8 and Kaden Graham 6. Rhett Kats scored on 10 of 10 field goals and added three 3s for 29 points.
The Trojans will play at home again on Tuesday, Jan. 28 as they take on the tough teams from Rawlins County.
