Logan hosts first basketball games of the new year
While the Logan-Palco high school girls enjoyed their volleyball season in the new LIFE Center gym, the ball games on Friday, Jan. 3 marked the first games for the boys in the new facility as the Trojans hosted Decatur Community.
Coming off of a two-week winter break, it took awhile for both teams to find their rhythms. In two quarters of the JV girls game, the Lady Trojans lost 10-28 with sophomore Emma Traxler scoring 7. The JV boys also played two quarters, with both sides struggling to find the bucket. In their first overtime game of the season, the Trojans were able to pull off the 14-13 win.
In true Coach Brandon Gehring style, the Lady Red Devils started the game in a full-court press which proved tough for the Trojans. Oberlin forced several turnovers and capitalized on the scoreboard. Putting up an impressive 68 points, Oberlin rolled over the Lady Trojans. Sophomore Breyer Delimont scored 7 points on the night.
For three quarters of the varsity boys match-up, only 2 points divided the teams. Luckily, a 14-2 run in the second quarter gave the Trojans the lead they needed. They held onto that lead and won 40-26. Seniors Ryan Prewo, Caleb Sparks and Rhett Kats each stole the ball 3 times. Sparks brought down 9 rebounds and scored 6. Kats had 7 boards and 20 points.
Hopefully the road conditions improve for Logan-Palco to host Lakeside on Tuesday, Jan. 7. The JV girls will not have a game, so JV boys will start at 4:45. The games will also be in Logan on Friday, Jan. 10 against Wheatland-Grinnell with JV girls starting at 4:15.
