Trojan boys take 3rd in Sagebrush Shootout

The Logan Trojans had a full week of basketball as they traveled to Brewster three nights for the Sagebrush Shoot-out Tournament.  It was a successful week as the boys went 2-1 which resulted in third place and the only loss was to tournament winner, St. Francis.  The Sagebrush tournament also plays host to a free-throw contest and a 3-point contest.  The Logan Trojans were represented well in both categories.  Nate Cruz made finals in the free-throw contest by shooting 24/25.  In the finals he was 23/25, where he got beat by one and therefore was the runner-up in that contest.  In the 3-point contest, Ty Kats was one of the 2 finalists.  In the finals the two boys tied with 7/25 and so they shot again.  Ty was 13/25 which easily put him as the 3-point champion for 2019.  Congratulations to both boys!

In the quarterfinals, the Trojans had a decisive victory over the Wallace County Wildcats, 71-39.  In the game, the Trojans had five players score in double digits to create a very balanced scoring attack.  Ty Kats had 14, Zach Jansonius and Ian Sparks both had 13, Nate Cruz had 12 points and 12 rebounds along with 4 assists, and Kylor Hogan had 11 points.  Friday was the semi-final game against a very athletic St. Francis squad.  At halftime the Trojans held a 29-21 lead, but with a St. Francis defense change, they were not able to sustain that lead to the end of the game and lost 43-52.  Junior, Ian Sparks led the charge against the St. Francis Indian with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.  With a quick turnaround, the Trojans played the consolation game on Saturday, December 14 against Wichita County (Leoti).  The Trojans led most of the game with the lead varying greatly in size from time to time, but as the final buzzer rang, they got to post a 57-54 victory.  In the 3rd place win, the Trojans were led by sophomore Dylan Van Laeys as he put in 18 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.  Both Ian Sparks and Nate Cruz contributed 13 points, with Spark grabbing 7 rebounds and Cruz getting 3.  Congratulations to the Logan Trojans for their 3rd place finish.

Although the Lady Trojans fell short on the scoreboard by a score of 58-62, they showed a great deal of grit and determination until the very end of the game.  The Trojans were led by 3 senior teammates. Harlee Voss had 15 points and 9 rebounds, Kelcee Braun had 14 points and 8 rebounds.  On Monday, December 9 the Logan Lady Trojans played the Cheylin Cougars in the quarterfinals of the Sagebrush Shoot-out in Brewster.  After posting a positive 17-2 first quarter, the Trojans were able to roll to a 46-29 victory.  Camryn Greving led the way in the contest with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals.  The win pitted the Lady Trojans against the Golden Plains Bulldogs, who were the eventual tournament champions.  Logan fell short in the game with a 27-53 loss to the Bulldogs on Friday, December 13, 2019.  In this game Kelcee Braun had 5 points, 6 steals and 3 assists and  Harlee Voss had 5 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals.  Their final game of the tournament was the consolation matchup against Wallace County on Saturday.  While the Lady steals and Camryn Greving had 14 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists.  Congratulations to Camryn Greving who was named as one of the five All-Tournament team winners!
