Logan-Palco JH takes 2nd place at WKLL tournament

The weather last week changed some plans for the WKLL Junior High League basketball tournament.  Games originally scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 13 were moved to Friday and the finals on Saturday, Feb. 15.

In girls action, Logan-Palco played Western Plains.  Down by as many as 11 at one point in the game, the Lady Trojans made a comeback, and were down by 2 with the clock ticking.  They were not able to get those final points to tie the game and lost 23-25.  "It was a hard-fought game, but the girls left everything on the court.  I couldn't be more proud of them!" said coach Kim Ellenberger.

The B-team boys played Weskan on Saturday and lost a close one 22-24.  Barrett Moore scored 9 points followed by Tucker Ellenberger with 8 and Bryson Bolt with 6.  They were able to rebound from the loss and beat Northern Valley 14-7 for 3rd place.  Bolt scored 6, Moore had 4, Ellenberger and Logan Trochez each scored a bucket.

The A-team boys defeated Heartland Christian on Friday, then Triplains-Brewster in the semi-final round 42-23.  Eighth grader John Sparks scored a big 14 points with Jeffery Bliss adding 8 and Weston Ruff 6.  For the championship game, the Trojans were matched with Weskan.  Down 22-28 at halftime, the Trojans felt that they were still in the game.  However, in the 3rd quarter, the Coyotes scored a whopping 29 points including 5 from beyond the arc.  The Trojans took the tough loss 28-67.  Bliss scored 12 and Tobin Kats had 8.  The Trojans placed 2nd in the WKLL League tournament and finished the season 13-2 with the only losses coming from Osborne and Weskan.
