FFA judgers compete in poultry contest
On March 6, 2023, the FFA Poultry team traveled to Downs to participate in the North West District FFA Poultry judging contest. The students spent many early mornings practicing for this contest. They also studied many different eggs and candled several eggs to prepare for the competition, analyzing the other parts of the chicken and identifying the different cuts of meat.
The students judged seven different classes associated with poultry.
The classes were as follows: Past productions hens, Broiler/Turkey carcass placing, identification of Carcass Parts, Broiler Parts or carcasses to quality grade, Exterior Egg Quality Grading, 10 Bone-in and ten boneless processed products, and Interior Egg Quality (Egg Candling).
The Greenhand team was comprised of Lylah Voss, Mollie Griffin, Case Ashmore, and Gavin Gottschalk. The team placed 5th in the Greenhand division. Individually Lylah placed 5th, Mollie placed 18th, Case placed 23rd, and Gavin placed 29th.
Ryan Prewo was the only Senior poultry participant for Logan FFA. He placed 29th.
