Logan HS vs WG 12-2-22

With a home game in Palco, the Logan Trojans hosted Wheatland-Grinnell in their season opener on Friday, Dec. 2.  Due to low Thunderhawk numbers, no JV games were played.

It took awhile for the Logan girls to warm up their shooting arms giving the Thunderhawks a chance to run the scoreboard for most of the game.  The Lady Trojans weren't done yet though as they fought back in the 4th quarter and came within two points in the last minutes of the game.  As Wheatland-Grinnell ran the clock with a delay of game, the Trojans were forced to foul to regain possession of the ball.  The Hawks made several free throws, and the Trojans ended the game with three players fouled out.  The final score was 43-49.  Senior Madi Brackney led the charge with 12 points and junior Ansley Delimont followed with 9.

The Trojan boys graduated 6 seniors last year, leaving only one player with varsity experience.  What the team lacked in experience though, they made up for in height with 10 of the 15 boys on their roster standing 6' or taller.  The Trojans maintained a slim lead throughout the contest, but the Thunderhawks kept biting at their heels, only down 6 at halftime.  The Trojans were finally able to extend their lead late in the 4th quarter to seal the deal and chalk up their first win 49-31.  Two players scored in double-digits as sophomore Rhett Kats tallied 14 points and junior Cameron Morgan added 10.  Sophomore Caleb Sparks grabbed 11 rebounds on the night.

The Trojans will participate in the Sagebrush Shootout in Brewster this week with the first round action starting on Tuesday.  The girls will play at 3:00 p.m., and the boys will take the court at 7:30.
