Logan comes home with 3 State medals!

Seven Logan athletes competed at the State Track meet held in Wichita on Friday and Saturday, May 26-27.

Senior Josh Van Laeys improved his PR and won a trip to the medal stand with a throw of 143'2" and a third place finish.

The girls 4x400 m relay team of Karlee Braun, Kelcee Braun, Crystal Bliss and Ryann Kats waited until the final event of the meet to race their way to the medal stand as well.  With a new PR of 4:14.88, the girls placed third.

Newcomer Jesse Bebb made his way to the State competition in two long distance races.  In the 2-mile, Jesse shaved almost 30 seconds off of his previous best time to finish 8th with a time of 10:17.25 and a spot on the podium.  In the mile, Jesse PR'd again with a time of 4:41.31, but just missed the medals with a 9th place finish.

Improving from her last year's finish in the pole vault, junior Ryann Kats placed short of the top 8 with a 9th place finish of 8'6".

In her first trip to Wichita, junior Lexi Hilburn heaved the shot put 32'8" to finish 10th.

"With only two boys making it to State, it was a welcome site to see both of them place.  Josh Van Laeys placed 3rd with a PR throw of 143'2" in discus, while Jesse Bebb PR'd in both the 1600 and 3200 runs.  He was one spot from the podium with a 9th place finish in the 1600, but he got done early Friday morning with an 8th place run in the 3200.  Both of these young men worked very hard towards the end of the season, which paid off with their success, said coach Mark Wildeman.

"State track meet's goal each year is to get as many athletes to state as possible.  Once we qualify, our goal is to get on the podium.  This was a struggle with our three girls events in 2017.  Ryann Kats placed 9th in pole vault and Lexi Hilburn finished 10th.  Our third and final event of the track season was not a disappointment.  4 x 400 relay team of Karlee Braun, Kelcee Braun, Crystal Bliss, and Ryann Kats ran a PR race of 4:14.88 to finish 3rd."
