Comment from Coach Mark Wildeman:
"The weather was a big disappointment for our athletes as they came into Regionals all competing at a very high level. With 20+ mph winds and little protection at the new FHSU facility, plus the throwing venue being moved earlier in the week to Victoria, our kids had to become mentally focused. I'm very proud of our athletes as they overcame the situation.
We had several strong performance from our athletes. Jesse Bebb almost swept the 1600 and 3200 runs by winning the 3200 and placing 2nd in the 1600. Our 4 x400 girls team of Karlee Braun, Kelcee Braun, Crystal Bliss, and Ryann Kats, which currently has the fastest time in 1A (4:15), overcame some really poor conditions by taking the gold. Lexi Hilburn placed 4th in the shot, Josh Van Laeys finished 3rd in the disc, and Ryann Kats placed 4th in pole vault to finish off our state qualifiers for the 2017 season.
With some hard work and focus this week, each of these events could end up on the podium next week at the state track meet in Wichita."
