A free and public education is the right of every individual and it is one of the most important tools a person can have in life. I believe every child deserves the best education possible, regardless of special needs. I believe that understnding diversity is an important skill as part of each school, community and as a citizen of the world. As an educator, I encourage all students to understand and celebrate the differences that make each individual special.
One of my favorite quotes is from George Evans, "Every child can learn, just not on the same day or in the same way". All children carry special gifts inside of them and it is the responsibility of teachers and parents to identify those gifts and build a learning environment to grow the individual. I believe every effort should be made to include students with disabilities in the regular education setting. A continuum of services, in the least restricitve environment should be avaiable to meet the individual needs of students so that they can achieve academic success and gain necessary life skills..
